Green laptop charger

There is a company known as iGo who are about to make a big splash at the forthcoming CES 2009 with a eco friendly charger which is guaranteed to cut back on the power used by the laptops. It is well known that laptop batteries do tend to suck in as much as they can.

However, with the iGo Laptop Charger, it uses an auto shut off which prevents this waste of energy. The company say that they can save up to eighty per cent in power use when the machine is left on standby, these do work out at considerable savings.

The laptop with two expandable screens

Lenovo were really going for it last week that they brought out the Lenovo W700ds laptop with a screen extension, now they have a rival, this is the one that has two expandable screens, yes, this has three screens in total.

This is the Prime Gaming Laptop and has been designed by Kyle Cherry, in total, the screens have a size of twenty six inches, but just looking at the machine, you know that this is cool. No word on cost, but I suppose its not going to be in the bargain basement.

Acer Introduces “Quad-Core” Laptop

If you’re looking for a supercharged notebook experience, the Acer 8930G is here to provide you with an entirely hyperbolic quad-core processor. Just in case you need to do some serious processing on the go, I suppose.

CNET is pretty down on whether a quad-core processor is truly necessary on a laptop computer, and though it probably isn’t, it’s not like the 8930G is entirely outrageous.

With a suggested retail price of only ,799, it might actually be worth it to never worry about being behind on processor speed.

Not to mention the fact that you get a large, 18-inch display and a Blu-ray disc drive.

LAPTOP Magazine has a fairly in-depth review if your interest is piqued.

Acer Aspire 8930G-7665 with Quad Core Q9000 CPU

Acer America has introduced the Aspire 8930G-7665, an 18.4-inch entertainment laptop with the new Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 Mobile Processor.

Along with the Q9000 that has four cores, a 2GHz clock speed, 1066MHz FSB, and 6MB of L2 cache, the Acer Aspire 8930G-7665 includes the NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GT 512MB video card, 4GB of DDR3 system memory, a 500GB hard drive, and a Blu-ray combo drive. The 16:9 display has a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

There are also a built-in web camera, Dolby Home Theater sound technology, 802.11a/g/draft-N wireless connection, and a 6-in-1 media card reader.

The suggested retail price for the 8930G-7665 is 99.99. Although Acer says the laptop is available now in the US, we were not able to find it at any online retailer.

Lenovo IdeaPad S10 Review

Laptop Logic has recently tested Lenovo’s IdeaPad S10 netbook and wrote for our website a guest post, summarizing the in-depth review.

“Lenovo’s new IdeaPad S10 netbook comes fitted with the same core components as most netbooks with slight variation: a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 512MB RAM, 80GB HDD, and a 10.2” LED backlit screen are included in the base configuration, and that has to be considered somewhat mediocre compared to some of the competing models that come with twice the RAM and roomier hard drives. Another thing that separates the S10 from the competition, however, is a very attractive design – it’s slightly thinner than the popular MSI Wind and sports a “flowing” design with appealing chrome highlights.
The size and weight are fairly trim, with dimensions of 9.8” x 7.2” x 1.1”. The S10 carries only a 3-cell battery, so the weight checks in at a moderate 2.4lbs. The keyboard leaves something to be desired though. It feels rather cramped considering it’s a 10.2” netbook. A Smartphone-sized tab key and an equally small right shift key are less than optimal, and it completely lacks a mute key.

The trackpad on the S10 is quite usable for a netbook, and the inclusion of a mini-express card slot is an excellent move by Lenovo, but there are only two USB ports instead of the customary three. Other connectivity includes VGA out, a multicard reader, audio in/out ports, Bluetooth, and an Ethernet port. One nice thing in particular is the ability to easily upgrade. Both RAM and hard drive are easily accessible, in the likely event that you want to upgrade the 512MB module. On the downside, the 3-cell battery life topped out at less than 4 hours even with light use.“

Overall, Laptop Logic wasn’t ecstatic about the Lenovo S10, but the conclusion was that it still provides a lot of good features considering the affordable price point, and the design is clearly appealing. The LED backlit screen is great, but the keyboard could have been better. All things considered, the editor had no trouble recommending the netbook, as it’s both attractive and affordable, but buyers should take the weak base configuration as well as the relatively short battery life into consideration.

Stock Up on Cheap Laptops for the New Year 2009!

Here’s a cheap netbook that might be worth buying for the New Year 2009:

The 7″ Sylvania netbook might be the deal of the century, priced at just 9.97, almost half the price of an iPhone.  The thing I like most about this netbook is that you have a choice of Windows XP or Ubuntu.

I am really leaning to get one of these as they are CHEAP and I could use them for Linux hacking.

Laptops outsell PC’s

This day had to come and it is a surprise that it has not come sooner, but finally laptops are out selling desk top PC’s during the third quarter of 2008 around the world. Since the same time last year the sales of laptops has grown by more than forty per cent.

Currently the figures show that the desk top PC market reduced by one point three per cent to thirty eight and half million units. Whereas the laptop market grew by forty per cent to thirty eight point six million units, there is not much in it, but those small fractions make all of the difference.
